Line Betting
Line betting with Player now has two variables - both the handicap itself (the minus or plus value) and the price itself which can vary as a market progresses and there is support for one of the two line options.
In some instances the handicap itself will change : for example, in AFL, if Fremantle are supported at the line at -19.5 points, rather than the price trimming into $1.85, the line will slide out to -22.5 points. The flip side of this is that their opponents price will also remain fixed at $1.90. However, they will be given a bigger head start. In this example at +22.5 points.
There will be other occasions where the actual handicap itself remains fixed eg. Fremantle -19.5points/West Coast +19.5 points but there is support for Fremantle and their line price trims into $1.85 while the West Coast's price at the + 19.5 drifts out to $1.95.
There is no hard and fast rule as to which of the two methods will be used to adjust the market however normally the closer the game is to start time the more likely it will be that the price will change rather than the handicap and on the flip side it is more likely that any support early in the week for a weekend match is more likely to result in a change in handicap rather than a change in the price.
The best way to check the latest prices and handicaps for line betting on any of the dozens of sports covered by Player - the new name in Racing & Sports Betting is to check the market on the CIT's in the agencies, log onto www.playeronline.com.au and refer to Line betting on your particular sport or call 13 23 68 to source the latest line prices and handicaps.
